Queensland Bulls Some Match Statistics :
The Bulls did not heed the lessons of Ferguson's play. After Michael Lumb clubbed 24 in three overs, he kept swinging for the fence, running at offspinner Nathan Lyon and missing to gift Graham Manou a stumping. Chris Simpson fell in the same vein five balls later, before two became three when the Bulls skipper James Hopes heaved against the spin of Aaron O'Brien only to be caught off the leading edge at backward point. The Brisbane floods have forced Saturday's Big Bash match between Queensland and New South Wales at the Gabba to be postponed until January 24. A number of the Bulls players and families, including Ben Dunk, have been affected by the city's overflowing creeks and rivers, while Queensland Cricket's offices in Albion have been closed.

Dunk evacuated his apartment and stayed with his captain James Hopes while Ben Cutting tweeted this picture of the cricket club at Souths. Graham Dixon, Queensland Cricket's chief executive, said the decision to postpone the game took into account a range of problems.

"We faced issues with the public transport, with the fact that many people, including some of our players, would still be focused on getting back into their homes or cleaning up, and the likelihood that the usual police and security resources we rely on would be diverted to the recovery effort,'' he said. "While the venue was in good condition, and Kev Mitchell had done another wonderful job to have a wicket prepared, there were some solid logistical challenges for catering if we had staged a game."

Dixon said the "extraordinary circumstances" had affected sport and every other segment of the community. "The fund raising and assistance for the community is a focus for us all at the moment, and no doubt when we play the match it will be a welcome sign for many that things are on the way back to some sort of normality," he said.

James Sutherland, Cricket Australia's chief executive, said postponing the match was the best option. "Australian cricket is committed to providing assistance to our friends in Queensland and will continue to raise much-needed funds for the recovery effort," he said.

The Bulls had one eye on the weather in their chase as opener Chris Simpson got them off to rapid start, clubbing 20 from 11 balls after Michael Lumb fell early. However, he failed to capitalise on his start, as he was bowled by Xavier Doherty in the third over to leave the Bulls at 2 for 25. But Hopes (65 not out) and Lee Carseldine (28 not out) dashed any hopes that Tasmania might have had of a Queensland collapse. They smashed 94 runs off 68 balls to make a mockery of the Tasmanian attack and reach the target with 37 balls to spare. In one stretch of eight deliveries, the experience pair thumped six fours and a six between them.

New South Wales Blues Some Match Statistics :
The 'baby' Blues - missing a host of senior players because of international duties and injury - were rattled early by Dirk Nannes (3 for 23), James Pattinson (3 for 22) and an Aaron Finch wonder catch on the boundary, collapsing to 5 for 69 in the 9th over. The Blues had been in cruise control at 0 for 69 after 8 overs in pursuit of their target of 153. David Warner (38) and Usman Khawaja (33) were ticking along nicely before Warner gifted his wicket to offspinner Jason Krejza. Krejza had been unlucky earlier, when he opened the bowling and trapped Khawaja plumb in front first ball, but the umpire was unmoved.

New South Wales are on the lookout for a new coach after Matthew Mott confirmed he was heading to the UK to take the reins at Glamorgan. Mott, 37, will depart at the end of the current Australian domestic season, ending his four-year stretch as head coach at New South Wales, which followed three years as an assistant under Trevor Bayliss.

He has a strong record with the Blues, having guided them to the Pura Cup in his first season in charge, in 2007-08, followed by a Big Bash triumph in 2008-09. He became known on the world stage in October 2009, when he steered New South Wales to the inaugural Champions League Twenty20 title in India, where they defeated Trinidad and Tobago in the final.

The Blues are again in a strong position this summer under Mott's stewardship; they sit on top of the Sheffield Shield table and just one point from the competition leaders in the Ryobi Cup. However, at New South Wales he has always had a vast array of international players under his command; 19 of the state's 32 contracted players this season have represented Australia.

His challenge will be very different at Glamorgan, where off-season turmoil has resulted in the departure of the captain Jamie Dalrymple, the cricket manager Matthew Maynard and the club president Peter Walker. Nor has the club had much joy on the field; they missed out on promotion from the County Champion second division, and came last in their Clydesdale Bank 40 group and second-last in their Twenty20 pool.

"I have had a fantastic seven years at Cricket New South Wales and will miss the place and the people immensely, but I believe the challenge at Glamorgan is something that really excites me on a number of different levels," Mott said. "Certainly the opportunity to experience a different culture and broaden my cricketing horizons, as well as provide my family with an opportunity to see another part of the world is something that I very much look forward to."

A left-hand batsman during his playing days, Mott started his career in Queensland before heading south to Victoria in an effort to get more regular state action. He played 66 first-class games and averaged 33.84 before retiring early and moving swiftly into coaching.
